Real Examples of Commercial Photography in the Wild

Having a hard time visualizing the benefit of commercial photography for your apparel brand? Let’s take a beat and view a real life example of what it can look like online.

Since 2022 I’ve been working with the Dripping Springs, TX brand Canter Culture Riding Apparel.

Initially when approached with their request for services we took some time to discuss details and needs in order to create a fully customized project quote. Since the business owners were still figuring out the full scope of their photography needs, we made adjustments to fit new aspects of the photoshoots as new projects came down the line.

The point of mentioning this is to prove how customizable commercial photography is, how the right photographer can help you grow with your business, and that you’ll always have room to incorporate new ideas and concepts.

Here are a few examples from the Canter Culture website, complete with custom commercial photography from Syd Fuller Photography.

Here are a few tips on how to be prepared when approaching a commercial photographer for a quote request.

Know your Marketing Budget: Having a solid idea of how much your business plans to spend on Marketing for the cycle will help greatly when trying to understand product photography pricing, and how much content you’ll be able to receive under that budget.

Know where you want to use the images: A general idea of what you’d like to do with the photos is incredibly helpful for receiving a quote that is the most accurate. Potential usage details may include the following; Your intended time-span for image use, Potential usage outside of your company, Potential Editorial usage, Location of usage(Local, National, and International).

All of these factors determine your per image licensing fee, other scenarios can come up but these are the big ones when working with Syd Fuller Photography.

Examples of your existing material: Off the bat, I’ll want to gather a lot of info about your business and the marketing content you already have. If this is your first time working with a professional photographer and you don’t have any product images then it’s encouraged to send over quick snapshots of the product or even existing social media content.

Know when you would like the images delivered by: This work takes time to make. We will likely spend a week or two on pre-production for smaller shoots, and possibly longer for more elaborate productions. Schedules have to align for Talent, Photography Crew, and Locations. Post-production tasks like Proofing, Editing, and Retouching can all take several weeks or more depending on the scope of the work.

So it’s important to have a realistic timeline from the start, or to be prepared to pay a premium for Rush services of you need the images before your quoted delivery date.
